Welcome to the Spring Term 2017
What we are learning
In Literacy this term we will begin by reading Mouse, Bird, Snake, Wolf by Dave McKean. We will also be reading A Hen in the Wardrobe by Wendy Meddour. We will be developing the children’s writing by encouraging them to make ambitious word choices and vary their sentence structure. We will be teaching the children how to edit and improve their work which they will do by making and publishing books of their own work.
In Maths we will continue to develop the children’s understanding of place value and we will be moving on to introducing them to formal column methods of calculation. We are trying to encourage them to build links between the different areas of maths and to explain how they have calculated answers.
Our science this term is learning about and experimenting with different types of rock. Our topic work is based on weather and climate.
Your continued support with homework is greatly appreciated. The spellings and English homework for each half term are stuck in their homework books. We ask for this to be handed in on Thursdays. Spelling tests are also on Thursdays. Maths homework will continue to be set on MyMaths. If you do not remember your child’s log in, please ask and we can reissue it. Please continue to read with your child as often as possible and ask them questions about what they have read to help develop their understanding.
Please ensure your child always has a PE kit in school. Poplar Class have PE on Mondays and Thursdays, Baobab Class have PE on Mondays and Wednesday.
Thank you for your continued support. Please don’t hesitate to contact us on our class email addresses if you have any concerns or questions.
