Welcome to Olive Class, your teachers this year are Mrs Hicks, Mrs Quayle, Mrs Pinniger and Mrs Golding.
We are learning
This term our class texts are The Princess’ Blankets by Carol Ann Duffy and The Explorers by Katherine Rundell (a recent Costa Award winning book). We will be ‘Writing to Entertain’ in the first half-term and then ‘Writing to Persuade’ leading up to Easter.
In Topic lessons we will be using our geography skills to learn about The Rainforest, looking at the features of rainforests, its location, its inhabitants and also looking at current issues surrounding deforestation and the environment.
In Music lessons we are learning a song by Adele and looking at how popular song is structured.
In Science lessons we will be looking at forces, including learning about gravity and different types of resistance. This will lead on to electricity in the final half-term.
In Maths, we will be continuing work on fractions and starting to look at graphs, decimals and percentages.
Our spelling test is every Monday morning (all spellings are stuck in the homework diary and book).
Daily Reading is to be recorded in home work diaries.
The Spring-Term homework challenges are on the inside cover of the children’s homework books. Books should be handed in on a Wednesday for marking.
Maths homework will be issued by Friday and should be returned by Wednesday.
Learning times tables is still an essential focus for this year and the children should practise these at home and at school. Hit the Button is an excellent app/website for this.
Please ensure your child always has a PE kit in school. Olive class have a PE lesson on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Forest School will be in the Spring Term and Swimming for Y5 will start in the Summer Term on Monday afternoons.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us on our class email addresses if you have any concerns or questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you need to speak to us directly about anything, then after school when you pick your child up is the best time.
Thank you for your continued support.
