We are learning
In Literacy, we are reading the following texts:
- Bears Don’t Read
- Farmer Duck
- Man on the Moon
In Maths, we are learning about:
- Number bonds to 10
- Addition and subtraction within 20
- Counting up to 100
In Science, we are learning about:
- The human body
- Animal groups
In Topic, we are learning about:
- Continents of the world
- The countries of the United Kingdom
Children have been issued a Homework book with various pieces of homework they can complete. They will receive the following certificates upon completing a certain amount of homework pieces:
- 2 pieces (Bronze)
- 3 pieces (Silver)
- 4 pieces (Gold)
Children are also given a new set of spellings to learn every Monday. These are to be practised at home for the weekly spelling test every Friday.
PE is every Wednesday and Thursday. Children will need a full PE kit each week and during the cold weather it is advisable to include a jumper and tracksuit bottoms.
Forest School is rotated on a half-termly basis between the two Year 1 classes and will be on during Wednesdays. Children will need a full set of Forest School clothes to change into which includes Wellington boots.
Reading books are changed every Monday.

Chinese Butterfly story - This is a story that the children have studied as part of their 'Stories from other cultures' unit. This is a beautifully animated version that is interactive - the children loved it so much I thought that they would like to be able to access it at home.
Los Animales - A song to help the children learn the names of animals in Spanish and the noises that represent them. We have been using this in class. Ask you child to show the actions we made up for each animal!
Los Colores - Click on 'Labelling colours in Spanish' Brief matching gaem to learn the names and spellings of colours in Spanish.
