Welcome to Sycamore Class page!
We have been looking at the book Varjak Paw in English and we have been finding out about the all the exciting adventures one cat can go on. We have recently debated whether Varjak should leave his warm home and loving family to go to the ‘Outside’ and find a dog. We look forward to finding out what happens next!
Our focus in maths this term is to be able to use our skills to solve problems. As part of our measures and shape topic we were given the task of designing a garden for a client. We had to include specific items for which we were given exact perimeters or areas. To be able to draw the garden we had to scale our measurements down (1m = 1cm).
This term our topic is River. So far, we have looked at the water cycle and features of a river. We created a ‘water cycle in a bag’ to show the flow of water around the earth. We have also created a river in sand to model how a river is formed and to witness the effects of erosion and deposition. It was messy but fun!
In science we are investigating the different states of matter. We have undertaken a range of experiments to observe each state of matter and begin to identify how and why they change. One of the experiments involved butter, jelly and chocolate…… Ask any of us if you want to know more!
In RE we have been thinking about the question ‘Why do you judge me?’ We have thought about the meaning of discrimination and how it might impact our lives. Throughout the topic we have come up with lots of different ways to stop unfair discrimination throughout our lives.
Our PSHCE lessons have revolved around our individual goals, hopes and dreams. We have discussed how we might achieve these through perseverance and hard work. However, we all understand that there may be barriers in our way and can now talk about how we might deal with feelings such as disappointment or sadness.
Our PE sessions this term are on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We have been learning the Hakka through our dance topic. Please remember to bring a full PE kit ready for these lessons. This include clean socks (especially for girls) as school socks or tights should not be worn during PE. If possible, earrings should be removed and hair should be tied back for safety reasons.
