Welcome to our Art Room page!
My name is Mrs Holland and I am the art teacher here at Churchfields Primary School. All of our children from our Nursery Class right through to year 6 all have weekly art lessons covering a wide variety of skills and activities.
What we are learning
We had a colourful Autumn term with all year groups studying Colour Theory. There is a great display showcasing some of their work going up in the corridor close to the entrance to Palm Class - please take a look if you are passing that way - it will hopefully brighten your day in these grey months!
For the first half of this Spring term we are studying a variety of topics. Years 2,3,4,5 and 6 will be experimenting with different printing techniques and the projects will be linked to their class topics wherever possible. Reception and year 1 will be looking at, and making, puppets – always a popular topic!
The pupils in Apple Class will be working collaboratively to create their own Chinese Dragon in readiness for the Chinese year of the Dog which starts on February 16th.
We are taking part in two ‘Arts’ based projects with external agencies this term. As part of the My Creative School project, funded by the Paul Hamlyn Trust, stakeholders from all areas of the school community will be invited to help contribute to a whole school Creative Manifesto – staff have already begun to become involved, our school council will be taking part in the next couple of weeks and we will then be turning our attention to parents and carer….so watch this space! We are being supported by creative practitioner Elspeth Penfold who will be working in and around the school over several days this term.
Our second exciting project is with a company called Architecture For All and will involve one of our year 5 classes working alongside architects and other local groups to commission each other and make models of a new structure or facility for the park. These will then be displayed at a later day and we will let you know about progress that is made.
This half term our after school arts and craft club will be open for pupils from Year 1 and 2. Held after school on a Tuesday evening from 3.20pm until 4.20pm, it is run by myself together with Mrs Pinniger. If you child is interested in taking part please contact Ms Dyrka in the school office for details and an application form.
