Welcome to Maple class.
Miss Luker will be taking you through Year 2.
We are very much looking forward to the year ahead.
We are learning
In English this term, this term, we will be reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. The children will write recounts in the form of diaries and they will learn to write persuasively focusing on the key techniques to use.
We will also be looking at different books written by Anthony Browne and will be comparing these in detail. The children will write their own narrative stories based on these books.
In Maths, , we will be continuing to follow our Maths No Problem scheme. The children will learn to identify and name the fractions ½, ¼, 2/4 and ¾. In addition, we will learn to find these fractions of shapes as well as numbers.
The children will also begin to learn to tell the time, focusing on o’clock, half past, quarter past, quarter to and to the nearest 5 minutes.
Please continue to support your children at home by practising the formal methods for addition and subtraction, word problems and the multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
In Science, we will be learning about plants. In class we will grow a range of seeds and bulbs and the children will discover what a plant needs to grow healthily. We will explore the simple life cycle of a plant and the differences between healthy and unhealthy plants.
In Topic, we will be learning about amazing activists in History. They will explore what life was like for different groups of people, why certain people are remembered and the impact they had.
Maths and English homework tasks will be set on Seesaw every Friday. Children should upload their completed maths and English tasks to Seesaw by the following Wednesday. Spellings and times tables tasks will also be set via Seesaw.
In addition, children are expected to read daily for at least 20 minutes and record this in their reading records. Please encourage your child to record a comment about what they have read and ensure they have their reading records in school every day.
PE will take place on Tuesday morning and Friday afternoon. On these days, please can your child arrive at school wearing their PE kit.
Every child needs to bring their full PE kit including a top in their house team’s colour, clean socks and suitable trainers.
Water Bottles: Please ensure your child has a named water bottle in school. These must be taken home at the end of each day and returned the following day. Due to COVID, please note we will not be able to provide the children with drinking cups.
If you need to speak to us directly about anything, then after school when you pick up your child is the best time.
Thank you for your continued support.
