Welcome to Oak Class.
Your teachers are Miss Burnett (Monday - Wednesday) and Mrs Widgery (Wednesday - Friday) with the help of the teaching assistants Mrs Mustafa and Mrs Pinniger.
We are learning
In English this term, we will be reading Holes by Louis Sachar. We will be covering a range of writing styles, including fiction, non-fiction, formal and informal writing. During this term, we will also continue to revise spelling and grammar rules.
In Maths, we will continue to follow our Maths No Problem curriculum. This term, we will start with units of measurement before moving on to percentages, ratio and algebra. We will also be regularly practising mental arithmetic as well as continuing to develop the children’s mathematical reasoning skills.
In Science this term, we will look at electricity. This unit of work will give the children plenty of opportunities to create and explore electrical circuits, as well as designing their own game based on an electrical circuit.
Our topic is ‘Who are the British?’. We will investigate migration from Roman to modern times and how, over time, this has shaped Britain.
In PSHEC, we will be thinking about our goals and how to keep ourselves healthy.
Homework is given out on Fridays and is collected the following Wednesday.
Each half term we will send home a week by week planner for spellings (tested on Fridays) and for the Topic or English work. Maths will be sent home each week to match up with our learning.
Children are expected to read regularly and record this in their reading records. These will be checked once a week on a Monday. We have sent home a list of ’20 books to read in Year 6’. We are challenging the children (and ourselves) to read as many of these books as they can and mark them on our chart in the classroom.
PE - This year Oak Class have PE on a Thursday. Every child needs to bring in a full PE kit including a top of their house team’s colour, clean socks and suitable trainers. Please make sure they also have a tracksuit for when the weather gets colder.
This term, Oak Class will have their swimming session on a Monday afternoon.
Please do not hesitate to contact us on our class email address if you have any concerns or questions at email@example.com
