Welcome to Ash Class.
In Ash class our teacher is Mr Oliveri, who is helped by Ms Ali and Mr Gallant.
We are learning
In Topic we have a History focus and are learning about the Great Fire of London. We will look at how the fire started, how it spread and how it finally stopped. We will look at the layout of London at the time and the materials that were used in the buildings to analyse how the fire was able to spread so quickly.
In English we are using our Topic as a basis for our writing. We will be creating different genres of text based around the Great fire of London, including poems, diaries, new reports and instructions. We will continue to develop our grammatical knowledge, thinking about how we construct sentences and the use of prefixes and suffixes.
In Maths we are looking working on our numerical skills by learning about fractions and how we are able to represent numbers which describe part of a whole. We are also considering the practical applications of maths and how we use maths to explore and describe the world around us. This includes learning about mass and time.
In Science we are learning about humans and animals. We will be looking for things that are in common and things that are different. We will be learning about bones, muscles and diet. We will learning how to classify animals, how to describe their skeletons and what they eat using scientific vocabulary.
In Reading we continue to have regular independent reading in class to help the children with the decoding and fluency.
During the week we have whole class reading sessions. These enable us to read a longer text as a whole class, making predictions, clarifying new words, summarising events and practising our comprehension skills.
Spelling will be given out on Mondays to be learnt for the following week.
Children will have a reading book to take home. This book should be brought to school every day. It can be changed whenever needed however we have a scheduled time on Tuesday to check in with book changes.
Additionally each week there is an Ash Class newsletter sent through the SeeSaw learning portal. This gives a brief overview of what we have learnt in the week along with relevant homework ideas
Swimming takes place on Monday afternoons for Year 5 students. They should bring a towel, swimwear and if required goggles.
Forest school takes place on Friday afternoons. Children should wear their forest school clothes into school for the day.
P.E. will happen on Friday morning, with a session for both ARC classes . Children do not need to bring in a P.E. kit and will be able to take part in their forest school clothes. They should however wear trainers in to school on the day to make sure they are best prepared for PE.
Please do not hesitate to contact us on our class email address if you have any concerns or questions at email@example.com
However, if you need to speak to us directly about anything, then after school when you pick up your child is the best time.
Thank you for your continued support.
